Making your own dog treats is a great way to ensure your dog is getting healthy dog treats that they love. Plus, making your own treats can save you money and gives you a fun opportunity to custom-make something special with a touch of love for your favorite dog. You can even give your homemade dog treats as a present to other dog owners in your life. The following are just ideas. Remember that you can change up whatever you want to make it perfect for your pups!

Dehydrate

If you have a dehydrator, this type of dog treat will be easy. If not, you can still dehydrate certain foods at a low heat in your oven to make a chewy, healthy treat for your dog to munch on. You can bake foods like sweet potato slices, banana slices, pieces of leftover meat, or even make a puree out of dog-safe veggies and meat at around 130 degrees for 8-24 hours depending on the thickness of your slices and what you choose to dehydrate. Dehydration results in a low-effort, cost-effective, and healthy treat that your dog will love.

Bake

Baking dog treats are similar to baking cookies. There are tons of recipes you can follow online or come up with your own. Unlike baking actual cookies, you should skip the sugar, chocolate, and other sweets. Instead, use ingredients like oats, eggs, pureed vegetables or fruits, chopped fruits or vegetables, pieces of meat, or peanut butter.

Freeze

Frozen treats are a great option to help a pup cool down on a hot day. Creating frozen treats are as easy as mixing up some of your dog’s favorite foods, putting it in an ice cube tray or plastic cup, and waiting for it to freeze. Some great ingredients that mix easily are banana, peanut butter, plain greek yogurt, chicken (or another meat) broth, fresh fruits, or natural fruit juices.
